Scripps Ranch California The Best Place To Live

Scripps Ranch, California is one of the best suburbs of San Diego to live in, providing a sense of community among the hustle and bustle. Learn more here.

Not everyone gets the itch, but when you do, it's hard not to scratch it. One day, you wake up and feel like you need a change. How wonderful would it be to try somewhere new, exciting, and different?

Edward Willis Scripps got that itch, and it led him to uproot his Midwestern life in exchange for the warm and beautiful environment of San Diego. Suddenly, Scripps Ranch California was born. Now, it's a thriving luxurious community.

You might not be ready right now but explore that feeling. In this comprehensive guide, we'll help you determine if Scripps Ranch is the right town for the next chapter of your life.

All About Scripps Ranch

Before you decide to move to a new area, it's important to familiarize yourself with the history, culture, climate, and more. You should immerse yourself in the town's people and environment so that you are sure the area is the right fit. Then, you should dissect each neighborhood and peruse the available properties.

In this section, we'll cover all the most important aspects of living in Scripps Ranch. Get to know everything from the history to the available schools and where to go out for a drink!

The Early Days of Scripps Ranch History

Scripps Ranch was a large swath of land before E.W. Scripps made his way over from the cold Midwest in 1898. A big-time publisher, Edward Willis Scripps started both the Detroit News and The Penny Press (now The Cleveland Press). His ailing sister Annie was living in Alameda at the time, so he traveled to visit her.

At first, Scripps felt that the San Diego area was a "busted, broken down boom town," but it quickly grew on him as he explored. Soon, he found the perfect spot 15 miles outside of town to build his new home.

The Scripps Ranch name is a bit misleading because the land was originally Scripps' estate, not ranch. He intended for the move to be temporary, but soon he and his half-sister Ellen bought 400 acres of land for the mansion, named Miramar. Later, the property expanded to 2,100 acres.

The town of Scripps Ranch today consists of most of Edward Scripps' original property. Some of the original landscaping on the grounds, such as around the Racquet Club and the Scripps Ranch Swim, still exist today.

Scripps Ranch is all-around the perfect community for families and those who enjoy relaxation. It is a quiet town with about 30,000 residents and offers everything from beautiful parks to excellent schools.
