Are you and your family thinking about moving? Are you and your family considering the state of California? Then there's no better place to be than Mira Mesa, California!

This community is located in Southern California in the city of San Diego, which is home to great beaches, fantastic weather, good food, and more.

Doesn't Mira Mesa sound like a paradise? It should definitely be a top contender when it comes to your list of cities to consider moving to.

If you're curious about this community, then read on to find out about Mira Mesa, San Diego, and more!

All About Mira Mesa, California

When you're considering moving and have SoCal in mind, then you might be eyeing these 3 top contenders: Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. While all have their perks, San Diego definitely has its own charm and advantages, including being home to the community of Mira Mesa.

What's great is it's located just a 22-minute drive away from downtown San Diego, so if you like nightlife, you're not far away from it. It's also very conveniently located near Interstate 805 on the west and Interstate 15 on the east and adjacent to Sorrento Valley.

What's even better is that Mira Mesa has almost 70,000 residents, making it not such a small community but not a big busy one either. In fact, many residents say they get the perfect suburban feel living here!

It's also a great cultural melting pot, with a huge population of mostly Asians, as well as Hispanic, Black, mixed, and other ethnicities. So if you're looking to get away from homogenous areas, then you've got it with Mira Mesa!

Also, if you're planning on going to college, have kids, or are planning on having them, Mira Mesa is just a stone's throw away from the University of California San Diego, which is an excellent university that has both undergraduate and graduate programs.

In addition, the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is just south of Mira Mesa.

Mira Mesa, California History (Early Days)

What's interesting is Mira Mesa didn't start out as a community. Instead, it was mainly used by the army and navy as a test site, dating back to WWII where it was used as an auxiliary landing field.

After the war was over, the local area found itself in a housing crisis. Because the area of Mira Mesa wasn't really being actively used, and the popularity of mass-produced homes soared in San Diego in response to the housing crisis, it was only natural that this military space was converted into homes by the 1960s.

The housing shortage was so bad that houses were quickly erected, but with no nearby amenities, such as shopping centers, police stations, parks, and schools. However, those were slowly added as the housing crisis was alleviated.

Also, remember how we mentioned that Mira Mesa is a huge melting pot, with a large Asian population? This is mainly thanks to Filipino immigrants who were on active duty at the naval air station, who brought their families over for a better life.

Mira Mesa, California Community & Schools

The Mira Mesa community entails 10,500 acres. The Mira Mesa Community Plan was first adopted in 1992 by the city of San Diego, and they're currently in the process of updating it. This will take into account how to grow the community over the next few decades, as well as how to reduce its carbon footprint.

As a whole, the county of San Diego also has many bus routes that'll take you anywhere you need to go, thanks to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, or SD MTS.

Need to go further? then the nearest train station is in Sorrento Valley. Here, you can take the Coaster train, which takes you to Downtown San Diego, Solana Beach, Oceanside, and further up north if needed.

Mira Mesa, California Traffic

Because Mira Mesa is a smaller suburb-type community, you won't have to worry about local traffic too much. Of course, if you're driving around during rush hour for work, then you'll experience more traffic than usual since everyone's leaving for work and arriving home at the same time.

Chances are, you'll need to commute to work. Whether that means a job in the county of San Diego or outside of it, you'll most likely have to get on the freeway.

Because it's such a big county, expect traffic to get bad early on, especially in the afternoon. We'd say that the freeways start getting congested around 3:00-4:00 pm.

Mira Mesa, California Weather

Those who want good weather always flock to California, as it's known for its numerous sunny days and high temperatures. Mira Mesa weather is no exception to this!
