Marina District Downtown San Diego The Best Place To Live

The Marina District was a former industrial and commercial anchor of downtown San Diego and has been redeveloped into an established neighborhood full of shopping, restaurants, residences, and activities. The Marina District is located at the southwest end of downtown San Diego southeast of the Gaslamp District and north of the Columbia District.  The Marina District was initially developed by Alonzo Horton as he was building the Gaslamp District. He built the Broadway Pier, which was the first commercial pier in San Diego for shipping and receiving. Today, the area has a port pavilion and hosts cruise ship tours and ferry rides. Neighborhood anchors include Pantajo Park, Children's Museum Park, Seaport Village, San Diego Convention Center, a waterfront boardwalk, and the USS Midway Museum and Maritime Museum. Seaport Village is undergoing redevelopment and the Convention Center is currently in discussion regarding expansion.  Students who live in the Marina District attend schools within the San Diego Unified School District. Schools include Washington Elementary School, and Roosevelt International Middle School. Students can also attend the private school, City Tree Christian School, or public charter school, The Museum School.
