Hillcrest San Diego Real Estate
Hillcrest is a community bordered by Mission Hills, Bankers Hill, University Heights, North Park, and Balboa Park. Hillcrest was a former chapparal covered mesa and was eventually purchased by George Hill. Development began between 1910 and 1920, and it was one of the first San Diego neighborhoods connected by Class I street cars. Hillcrest is the 13th most walkable neighborhood in San Diego with a Walk Score of 81. Today, Hillcrest is known as the LGBTQ central hub and hosts many local events each year including City Fest, Taste of Hillcrest, Pride Festival, Mardi Gras, and weekly famers markets. Hillcrest is also home to Scripps Mercy Hospital and the UCSD Medical Center. There are a variety of local businesses, restaurants with food from all over the world, coffee shops, and trendy thrift shops and boutiques. Restaurants include Trust, Bob-beau Kitchen & Cache, Snooze, and Saigon on Fifth. Students who live in Hillcrest attend schools within the San Diego Unified School District. Schools include Florence Elementary, Birney Elementary, and Roosevelt International Middle School. Private schools include All Saints' Episcopal School.
