East Village Downtown San Diego
East Village is the largest neighborhood in downtown San Diego and is located in east downtown and west of interstate 5. It is adjacent to Cortez Hill, Columbia, the Gaslamp District, and a small portion of the Marina District. East Village was formerly an area full of warehouses and vacant lots. Today, the warehouses are converted lofts and residences, and there are plenty of mid-rise complexes, luxury condominiums, and lofts. East Village is also the center for arts, culture, and education and home to Petco Park, which was built in 2004. Residents can enjoy the plethora of restaurants, shops, art galleries, and cafes. Schools include the New School of Architecture, Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and San Diego City College. Students are within the San Diego Unified District and can attend Sherman Elementary, Roosevelt International Middle School, and San Diego High School. They can also attend private school, City Tree Christian School, or E3 Civic High School, a public charter school.
