Cardiff has some of the best beaches on the west coast, with constant warm weather, awesome waves rolling in for surfers, and friendly residents. This area is known for its walkability, with many of its residents living just a short distance from town’s great shops, restaurants, and beaches. Cardiff is also known for its great surf spots, the most prominent of which are Cardiff Reef and Swami’s. Cardiff Reef can be found behind Cardiff Kook, a surfer statue that can be seen from the 101. This is a pretty laid back surf spot, but it is popular with both locals and visitors. Surfers of all experience levels can be found enjoying the long rides and steady waves found in Cardiff. When the tide is low, visitors like to explore the tide pools left behind on the reef’s low, flat rocks. Swami’s tends to be more crowded and is usually packed with some of the more serious surfers on the west coast. Its cliff top park includes a water fountain, picnic tables, and a shaded lawn. This park is the perfect spot to take a break and get out of the sun for a few minutes. Both of these surf spots are also located near top rated restaurants and bars, so you will not have to travel far to get a great meal after a full day of surfing. However, if you are looking for the best seafood in Cardiff, you should check out the Chart House or Cicciotti’s Trattoria Italiana and Seafood. If you time your visit right, you might even be able to see whale spouts in the distance or a vibrant summer sunset. Cicciotti’s Trattoria Italiana and Seafood has a surprisingly diverse menu, with a ton of pasta options, including an incredibly popular ravioli, fettuccine alfredo with shrimp, chicken parmigiana and pasta salsiccia. They also offer a multitude of other seafood options and typical Italian favorites such as specialty pizzas that are made in house.
