Bonsall California History

Bonsall has had a few different names during its history. It started as Mount Fairview when settlers established the Mount Fairview Post Office in 1871. That name was short-lived, as only a decade later the name of the town became Osgood.

The name was short-lived, and the residents ultimately settled on Bonsall. The name comes from James Bonsall, the local Methodist minister. He was a landowner and was running a successful nursery in 1889 when the name change took place.

When Osgood became Bonsall, it was already beginning to look something like a town. In addition to the original post office, the region boasted a blacksmith's shop, a school, a general store, and even a hotel. The community continued to grow from there, becoming the Bonsall we know today!
